CNH Circle K District Convention 2002
On Friday, March 22, 2002 over three hundred Circle K'ers from across
California, Nevada, and Hawaii traveled to beautiful Visalia, California for
the 48th Annual Cal-Nev-Ha Circle K District Convention. The theme for the
District Convention was "Circle K to the Rescue." With this theme, numerous
Circle K'ers came dressed up as their favorite super heroes to show off their
never ending CKI spirit. On that night, Pic Dulay, Immediate Past Cal-Nev-Ha
District Governor, inaugurated the District Convention opening session. Later
that night, there were caucuses for district officers and lieutenant
governors.
Like in the past years, Saturday morning was full of informational workshops.
The workshops included Team Building, Running Effective Meetings, MD&E, etc.
For lunch, we went to a warehouse where the food was prepared and cooked by
the local Kiwanis Club of Visalia as well as the Key Club of Visalia. Right
after lunch, the House of Delegates took place and the new District Officers
were elected.
The 2002-2003 CNH District Governor is Armando Velazquez, District Secretary
is Scott Smith, and District Publications Editor is Hailes Soto. Later that
afternoon, the exciting Awards Night went underway. A very good and delicious
dinner was served and after everyone was done eating, the awards for numerous
categories were distributed including Scrapbook, T-shirt, Mei-Po Wong Overall
Service, Talent show, Single Service Project, etc. These awards were given to
clubs who worked really hard in making a difference in not only their local
communities but made a difference across international borders. These clubs
truly demonstrated their involvement and true dedication to the promotion and
realization of Service, Leadership, and Fellowship.
Once the awards were given, it was time for people to dance and enjoy the
music during the Governor's Ball. There were other alternatives to the dance
including a Casino Night and Karaoke. As the night transcended, the clock was
ticking away and it was getting ever so closer to getting to pie a team for
the PTP pieing. The race was really tight, but in the end, team one was the
lucky team to win the privilege of getting pied. But since the District was
able to raise over the District goal of $10,000 for Pediatric Trauma, then
the entire executive board also was up for getting pied.
On Sunday morning, the retirement of the 2001-2002 District Board took place
and immediately after, the installation of the new 2002-2003 board took
place. The executive board consisting of Governor Pic Dulay, Secretary Manny
Cercado, Treasurer Carrie Chen, and Publications Editor Jimmy Koontz were all
praised for their successful year in being able to bring the Cal-Nev-Ha
District to new heights. That morning was full of emotional speeches by the
retired board but there were a lot of great news that were given as well. The
District was able to raise over $10,000 for PTP as well as achieving a new
high of nearly 40 hours per member, higher than the International average.
With the commencement of the old year and the great expectations for the
upcoming year, all the attendees were energized and ready to go back to their
communities and simply do whatever they could to improve their communities.
**See members who are thinking of joining? CKI IS FUN FUN FUN! Please try to
make it out to a meeting! We would really like to meet you! Hope that was
helpful and informative! Until next time, have a great week! -KATIE O.
