General Site Questions
- What is the overall tone and feel of the site?
Informative, colorful, inviting, educational.
- What was your first impression of the opening screen?
Many colors and details, lots of images to explore.
- What area of site first drew your attention and which page did you visit?
I clicked on the price list first. Brightest logo.
- Does the navigation make it easy to move around the site?
Yes.
- Is the sites content logically laded out?
Yes.
- Were the pages interesting? Why or why not?
Yes. They had all the information needed for a new customer hoping to recycle in Sonoma County.
- What is your impression of the color scheme and images?
Color scheme is logical and easy to read. Green indicates recycling, brown for earth tones. Dark text on white background makes for painless reading.
- Did all of the links work there any links that did not work, images that did not load, typos?
Links worked properly. Found a typo in Jobs page: "In addition TO the OADS crews and their supervisors, the PRC employs a small number of customer service specialists, who focus on the processing, storage, tracking, and shipping of the recycled materials purchased from the community." Also a few of the captions for photos in the gallery have a question mark where there should be an apostrophe.
PRC site specific Questions
- If you had items to recycle, could you find out how and where to take it? Does the Recycling Center accept it?
The Recyclables section would have this information.
- Can you find the price for PET 1 bottle recycling?
$0.93/lbs for segregated, and $0.73/lbs for commingled.
- What is the goal of the recycling center?
Serve Sonoma County's recycling needs while serving as a job training center for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Can you find the hours of operation for the center?
8-5, Monday through Saturday, found on both the home page and the contact page.
- Does the image map work as expected?
Yes. It's completely interactive. It zooms and slides as it should.
- Is the Photo Gallery pleasing to the eye? Do the images load quickly in your browser? Does the slide-show work?
The Photo Gallery looks great. For some reason on the Opera browser the thumbnails look black and white, but otherwise it's lovely. Slide-show works perfectly.
- Do the images enhance the site and give an excellent representation of PRC?
Yes.
- Does the site provide new information about PRC to the community?
It offers the community all the answers they would receive by showing up in person, without showing up in person. When they do visit the recycling center, they will have the necessary information to make their visit a pleasant one.
- Is the organization and sequencing of information appropriate?
Yes. The essentials are all laid out logically.
- The site is easy to navigate and the navigation graphics are adequate identification for each page or section?
Yes.
Critique Questions
- What did you like best about the site?
The site felt inviting and informative in general. Information was clearly presented, complemented with numerous outsides resources.
- What did you like least about the site?
I am very happy with it. The changing photos in the header to indicate each section is a great idea, but perhaps they could have been nestled a bit better into the design. Otherwise everything is top notch.
- What changes would improve the site and why?
Perhaps more photos of staff and employees, but that requires releases and it gets a bit complicated.
- Any additional comments or critique?
Great site! You did fantastic work.
Designer Response
- All typos and caption errors were passed along to by the contact developer.
- The request to change the pictures in the header will be discussed with the team. It may be too late for design changes. The original plan was to match the pictures to the home page link, but not all links have home page images. So, additional images were selected. The original images selected were objects from within pictures, ususally signs, not full scenes. I don't think I properly communicated this to the content developer and I did not provide images of the specific objects, only a listing of the images to be used with each page. I will create the additional images and pass them to the content devloper. If not included in the design, they can be added to the project CD.
