CLASSMATE FEEDBACK
Target Market:
We tried to primarily target the funding sources for Legal Aid of Sonoma County, rather than the recipients of the services they provide. These include the local legal community, including attorneys, judges, and administrators. Also targeted was the private sector, including the top employers in the community, who employ some of the clients of Legal Aid of Sonoma County. We also wanted to be sure this site provided some basic information for the clients of Legal Aid of Sonoma County.
Testing Respondents:
Respondents include: Partners For Sustainable Pollination: Jon Piehl, Susan Bergna, Brad Mark, Cathea Scheer. United Against Sexual Assault (UASA) of Sonoma County: Rose Carlson, Anna Wernicke, Dusty Dwyer. Filipino American National Historical Society, Sonoma County Chapter:

Questions
| Is the site easy to read and access? |
|
| *If you were a client of Legal Aid of Sonoma County, would you easily be able to find information about services available to you and a way to contact this organization for help? |
|
| *If you were a potential donor to Legal Aid of Sonoma County, would you easily be able to learn about their program and is it clear how to make a donation? |
|
| Do you feel the design (color, layout, tone, feel) is appropriate for
the material? |
|
| What is the overall tone and feel of the site? |
- Professional but warm
- Somber and serious, yet hopeful.
- friendly
- friendly, informative, professional, caring
- Uplifting, hopeful as if they may have an answer to a persons problems and are there for them.
- Interesting, inviting, hopeful
- Nice colors, crisp and clear, easy to read.
- The overall tone and feel of the site is welcoming with the blue and teal colors. The purple is a curve ball though. All the photos of people give the site a very personable touch.
- Very friendly and encouraging
- family law
|
| Did you find the site easy to navigate? Why or why not? |
- Yes, navigation clearly describes where it is pointed
- For the most part, yes. One thing I found disconcerting is how much the page look changes from the home page to sub-level pages. It left me disoriented for a bit. I'd also like a clearer indication of where the user is in the site at a given time, even if just via a change in the top nav tab that the user is currently on.
I do like the leftnav that displays jump links for the page you're on along with sibling sub-level pages.
- yes because the colors and the menu is easy to do
- yes
- Yes accept not sure if it is just me, but I am not used to clicking on a main nav button to get info - you do that on most of the navs. When a drop down happens I instantly roll down to my options, & the main information of the button seems to be in the main nav button.
- yes
- Simple to navigate, large letters for my tired eyes! I liked your sub-nav links on the left side of the page, I did not have to go back to the top of page nav
- For the most part the site is easy to navigate. I think the nav bar should stay in the same location from the homepage to the other pages through. Also, I didn't realize the main nav links went to critical info. I thought the drop down links were the only info.
- Very simple and clear navigation made it easy to get around the site.
- yes, links were well labeled
|
| Were the pages interesting? Why or why not? |
- New pictures on each page kept site fresh
- yes clear menu
- yes
- All pages were very informative yet not overwhelming with reading material.
- yes, I especially liked the photos. They set yhe tome for the site, as well as the soft green color. Type was large enough to read easily.
- The stories of people who were helped, although dramatic, were interesting.
- Yes the pages were interesting. Not too much info on each page, yet enough info to engage me. The pictures made the pages come to life.
- Yes, they really showed a great caring attitude toward families. And there was a strong undertone to the pages that seemed to "yell out" "we are here to help all families, we are here for you". At least, that's the feel I got.
- liked the pictures and gradient background
|
| What did you like best about the site? |
- Ease of use, uncluttered appearance, content presentation
- The design. The clean lines and consistent colors that mirror the logo makes the site feel unified and sophisticated. I especially like the home page. The main image of the two girls overlapping the top and bottom nav looks great and gives the page depth.
- the bilingual part
- using photo and stories to add human element, and love the logo
- The huge picture of smiling faces on the home page.
- The photos
- Soothing colors, easy to read. Nice font.
- The pictures of people
- Yes, they really showed a great caring attitude toward families. And there was a strong undertone to the pages that seemed to "yell out" "we are here to help all families, we are here for you". At least, that's the feel I got.
- header, simple but leaves impact
|
| What suggestions for improvement do you have? |
- None, looks great
- I would use fewer colors on the text. The single maroon link color is good, but elsewhere teal and blue are both used--I'd just use one of these. With too many different colors it's a bit dizzying and also confusing because you don't know if different colors have special functions.
I would also suggest smaller font sizes in many places, especially the navigation and dropdown menus.(Or maybe just un-bold them on the second-level pages.) Some of the headers are in all-caps--this also feels like overkill and a bit too "in your face" in my opinion.
- nothing it's really cool
- very minor:
-add habla espanol to home page
-add phone hotline under logo or somewhere easily seen
- I think "Programs" should be named "Get Help" and that existing "Get Help" info incorporated elsewhere or called something else.
- none (2 responses)
- Your Staff and Board photos on abstaff.html are the same photo.
- Purple links equal visited links. It's confusing that all the links are purple. Also some of the drop down links in the nav take up two lines. I'm a big fan of one line per link.
- good job
|
| Were there any links that did not work, images that did not load, typos? |
- Not that I saw (5 responses)
- Looks good to me.
- all works
- no
- Only the two photos that are the same on the abstaff.html page.
- Not that I found. The site functions perfectly.
|
| Any other comments? |
- good job guys
- Volunteer and Sponsor links in the events is a bit buried at bottom of page, nice collage
- Very Nice!
- Great job. Very professional site.
- I really like the layout of the site and the professional feel of it. Very well done.
- Great job!

Site Tasks
In this section, we asked our classmates to complete a few tasks at
the site and describe the process by which they achieved them. Here are the responses we received.
Task 1:
How do you find out about sponsoring the Golf Classic event? |
- Events>Golf Classic>Sponsor
- I first went to the Programs menu, then the Donate one (because I interpreted that as meaning monetary donations only). Perhaps "Donate Now" should be something along the lines of "Support Us"? Once I found Event Sponsorship, the left nav was great for locating the Golf Classic section.
- on events
- click events, look for golf, click sponsor
- Did not even go to the page until you mentioned it here. Name it "Play Golf & Sponsor" that will get some clickers.
- Donate Now> Event Sponsorship
- Although I would rather die than have anything to do with golf, I would click on events/golf/be a sponsor.
- From the top nav, I hovered over "Donate Now" and then selected "Event Sponsorship".
- Go to events then click on "golf classics event 2008" then click on "be an event's sponsor" link from there.
- donate now...event sponsors
|
Task 2:
Who would you speak to if you were looking for the "Executive
Director" of Legal Aid of Sonoma County? |
- Ronit Rubinoff (6 responses)
- Ronit Rubinoff. I looked directly to About Us > Staff/Board first thing. Good job.
- English & Spanish
- about us, staff, Ronit Rubinoff
- Hovered over "About Us" then selected "Staff/Board". Ronit Rubinoff's name as the first name I saw. Plus her direct email address is right by her name. Very easy!
|
Task 3:
If you wished to make a donation, what are your options? |
- Paypal, credit card, check, sponsor an event, volunteer
- Program and Event sponsorship. (If there's a way to give a simple monetary donation, I didn't see it.)
- paypal
- donate now, how to donate, paypal-check-CC-volunteer
- There is a lot of program information on the donate page. You may want to just use the program names & link to them for more info. I had to do a lot of searching for the actual donation info i.e. Gold etc.
- Paypal, check, credit card, sponsor an event, volunteer
- Several. pay pal, call with a credit card
- Hovered over Donate Now then selected Program Sponsorship. All the different ways to donate are laid out on that page. I think that page should have a link to a contact form or email address so people who want to donate can easy get in contact with the organization.
- Program sponsorship-choices- "safe at home",CAPP, homeless. Gold, Silver, and bronze levels. Lawyers with Heart Sponsorship Opportunities, and Golf Tournament.
- safe, capp, home
|
Task 4:
Where would you find instructions about receiving assistance from Legal Aid? |
- Contact (2 responses)
- Get Help (6 responses)
- on site, phone or e-mail
- Click on the Get Help link on the top nav bar
|
Summary:
We had all ten of the classmates we ask for feedback provide responses. Overall the feedback was positive. Our classmates thought the overall tone of the site was friendly and professional. The navigation was easy to use, although we did receive some feedback that a few people didn't expect to find important content on main navigation bar itself, only the drop-downs. We are bringing this feedback to our client, because we don't want potential donors to miss out on the "donate now" page. Overall everybody seems to like the overall designs, the photos, and that the amount of content on each page wasn't overwhelming. The other suggestion that a classmate made that we are taking to the client is to add "habla esponal" to the home page.
