Here is my epic one month adventure in the designing and building of a horse shelter for a large, unappreciative horse
I have always loved horses, and I have owned two well behaved horses in the past. Now, many years later, I found a new horse to call my own. And he was going to be in my backyard, for better or worse, in fewer than 4 weeks! How was I going to protect him from the elements? A brand-new homemade horse shelter of course. In cowgirl speak, we say Yee-haw!
In the Beginning, There Was Mud
I've never built something from scratch before, a few remodels here and there, but never a complete building. So, with the help of my wonderful fiance´, we embarked upon this seemingly simple project.
To start, we had to decide on a good spot to place it, as well which direction it would face. And with a pasture that was inevitably going to be a muddy mess as soon as the rains came, it was not going to be an easy decision. But with a little research, we were able to come up with the perfect spot, and inevitably, a great shelter.
