The 1965 Galaxie series was a departure from the previous model year, and came in 17 different models. Notable differences from the year previous was the dual vertical stacked headlights. It was also wider than last years model, and came with these options: Power Brakes, Power Front Seats, Automatic Speed Control, Remote Mirrors, Swing Away Steering Wheel, Power Windows, Air Conditioning, Padded Dash and Visors, Wire Wheel Covers, Vinyl Roof Covering, and Remote Trunk Release. Variations included the Galaxie 500LTD, Galaxie 500XL, in convertible and hardtop, Galaxie 500 and Ford Custom.
Galazies were considered total performance vehicle, and offered multiple engine choices from the six cylinder 240, to the rare 427 Thunderbird V-8. Components included: four or eight barrel carburator, Synchro Smooth Drive manual transmission, four speed floor shift offered on 390 and 427 engines, and Cruise-O-Matic three speed automatic transmission.
This model year ushered in a new age of full size performance without skimping on luxury and style.
