Summary:
Respondents Susan Bagby Mathews (SRJC-PR), Shook Chu Chung (SRJC-PR), Stephanie Thompson (SRJC-CA), and Linda Hemenway (SRJC-CIS) provided written feedback. Michael Salinger (CA-CA) and Stephanie Thompson provided additional verbal feedback. Mark Linford (SRJC-CS) did not respond.
Generally we received very favorable responses. Adjectives like “clean”, “warm”, “glowing” “inviting” “professional”, “attractive”, “interesting”, “well-written information”, “refined”, “colorful, but not overstated”, “fast loading pages”, etc. were found throughout the survey.
It was pointed out by nearly all that the heading should say “Culinary Arts” instead of “Café”.
There was also some confusion on where to find the certificate course requirements, and the fact that the program and a certificate sharing the name “culinary arts”.
More than one respondent found the navigation to be “flighty”, In a separate meeting after the survey, the client also suggested that the pop-out navigation might confuse some site visitors. The client inquired about repeating the second level page link in the companion third level pop-out menu. The project manager pointed out that there were already three links to each second level page on each page. The designer suggested that perhaps the confusion stemmed from the second level roll-over color not matching the third level color, and that the second level rollover color should be change to match the color of the respective pop-out group. The designer could not promise to make this change before 5/20, but agreed to change the color after that date.
The calendar page received a number of mixed responses. Comments like “easy to find, nice photo, clear calendar, looks nice” were given. However, some found small numbers and text difficult to read. Other comments included “testy” and “to many” pop up windows, and difficulty returning to the main calendar. It was further stated, “the gray border plus the underline text links are somewhat distracting”. A lack of dates with events also caused some confusion.
Two out of four respondents thought that “Home Cooking” or “Resources” was where the chicken recipe would be found.
When asked about improvements, comments received included expanding “Success Stories” to include former students. Another thought that the recurring photo on each page should be placed at the lower left corner to provide better page balance. Another suggested that programs strengths and benefits could be emphasized more.
All the responses provided important perspective, and were quite helpful and enlightening. One respondent summed up the site quite nicely by saying, “I think Culinary's site is an excellent demonstration of a successful collaboration among numerous individuals who have been key to its final outcome. All involved should celebrate and be proud to share this success, for a job well done!”
